"With one foot in the womb" is an ongoing heartfelt study by a daughter who, several years ago decided to settle in a foreign country. In doing so, she didn’t fully anticipate the inevitable yearning for her homeland that would arise over time.

This personal project shows mundane aspects from my family’s life and highlights the somber realization that henceforth I can only take part in this milieu during my short home visits. The documentation’s central themes revolve around the passing time, the changing of seasons and their definitive nature that evokes a strong melancholic feeling and sets the mood for the winter months when we instinctively rediscover our spiritual depths. The warmth here comes from the implicit memories that we share together. This very fact helps reconnecting and provides a safe space for contemplation about authenticity, identity, inherited fates and its power to revolutionize our family's belief system for the better. Surrounded by loved ones who hold up a mirror to each other for each other’s self development, I see the portraits of beloved humans who took a great part in shaping my personality so I can stand unwaveringly on unknown lands.

Each visit, however, brings with it a sense of anxiety as I watch how time etches its marks on their faces, muscles, bones, and joints, reminding me of how harsh and unyielding time can be. Letting the desire of control out of my hands, I need to tap into the passed down wisdom of my family and my ancestors to slowly surrender to the holy and natural rhythms of life.
